Dreamworld: 3.71 MWp over the visitor car park

The main visitor car park at Coomera is one of the largest uncovered sealed surfaces on the northern Gold Coast. We drew and priced a canopy across it. On a park where a guest's day starts and ends in that car park, shade is worth something on its own, and the generation arrives when the park is busiest.

Peak generation and peak visitation are the same days. Summer school holidays bring the highest gate numbers, the highest cooling and ride load, and the highest solar output of the year. A canopy on the visitor car park puts the generation on site for exactly those days, and puts shade over a guest's car while they are inside.

What the canopy does for the site

Shade is a guest experience upgrade

Returning to a car that has been in the shade for eight hours in a Queensland summer is the last impression of the day. Very few energy investments are experienced by the customer at all.

3.71 MWp on one surface

About 5.6 GWh a year generated on site, on a single title, with one connection conversation and one construction programme.

Weather cover for arrival and exit

The canopy is waterproofed as standard, so it also covers the walk to the gate in a Gold Coast downpour.

EV charging where cars sit all day

Guests park for a full day, which is the ideal charging dwell time. The canopy is the structure and cable pathway chargers mount to when you want them.

Why this car park

The park's own demand is high through daylight hours, driven by rides, cooling and food and beverage, and it peaks in the same season as generation. Electricity on the canopy is consumed on site behind the meter rather than exported at a lower value.

The canopy drawn below delivers 3.71 MWp, about 5.57 GWh a year on site, for $6.39M of base scope. Installs can be staged section by section so the car park stays usable through the works, which on a trading park in peak season is the deciding constraint.

Proven on trading sites

Canyon Solar factory-builds solar canopies that turn large car parks into onsite generation and shade. We have delivered them for Woolworths, across six sites, and for IGA, AstraZeneca and CSIRO. At Wests Illawarra Leagues Club we installed 365 kWp over the club's main car park in its busiest season, across two staged installs, with four EV chargers and no parking bays lost.

How to proceed

Own it (CAPEX)

You hold the canopy and all of the generation, on a 30-year design life. Staged if that suits the site.

Hardware as a service (OPEX)

$0 upfront. A service agreement arranged through an independent finance partner; you keep the generation and pay from the savings.

Every canopy is engineered, factory-built and installed by the team that has delivered 16 projects across three states.

A short working session to confirm the staging sequence against the park calendar, validate the layout on the actual title boundary, and firm the tariff and self-consumption assumptions with Dreamworld's own load data.
